In this impressive altarpiece, Rogier van der Weyden produced an innovative representation of a common theme, Christ's Last Judgment of humankind. Commissiioned by Chancellor Nicolas Rolin for the Hôtel-Dieu (hospital) he had established in Beaune, this polyptych had various functions.
