The report deals with the importance and the role of teacher in establishing socio-emotional atmosphere in the class. Especially stressed are the speculations on the possibilities of application of direct observation in the investigation into the effects of teacher's behavior in the classroom. Further are presented the results of a research the subject of which was the analysis of the relation between the style of teacher's behavior, (defined in terms of verbal communication and the social relations that are established among pupils). The identification of the two styles of teacher's behavior directive and non-directive, is accomplished through the modified Flanders' system of categories of analysis of verbal communication during the class, whereas the social structure of the class as a group was the subject of a sociometric questionnaire with unlimited number of positive and negative choices. The results obtained proved the hypothesis on the more favorable impact of the indirective style of behavior of the teacher upon expressing the pupils' initiative and discipline in the classroom, as well as that on the more favorable impact of the non-directive style of teacher upon establishing social relations among pupils in the class ; U radu se raspravlja o značaju i ulozi nastavnika u kreiranju socijalno- emocionalne klime u odeljenju Poseban naglasak stavljen je na razmatranja o mogućnosti primene direktnog posmatranja u istraživanjima efekata nastavnikovog ponašanja u razredu. U radu su, zatim, prikazani rezultati istraživanja čiji je predmet bio razmatranje odnosa između stila ponašanja učitelja (definisanog terminima verbalne komunikacije) i socijalnih odnosa koji se uspostavljaju između učenika.
