Shi‘i Muslim youth in the Netherlands: Negotiating Shi‘i fatwas and rituals in the Dutch context

In the last decades of the 20th century large numbers of Shi‘i Muslims, mainly from Iran, Iraq and Afghanistan, sought refuge in western countries, including the Netherlands. From the 1990 Shi‘i religious authorities began to issue fatwas specifically for Shi‘i Muslims living in the West.
