Leafing through the pages of urban atlases such as the Theatrum Italiae, published for the first time in 1663 by the Blaeu publishing house of Amsterdam, it has always been possible to make a mental journey to discover the Italian peninsula. Focusing our attention on the editorial process underlying the creation of the atlas, we analyze what kind of contacts existed between the Blaeu and their Italian partners.
