Communipaw Ferry
On the site of the Native American village of Gemoenepaen, Communipaw was the site of one of the first houses built by the Dutch, in 1633. The Communipaw ferry brought goods to and from the capital of New Netherlands, New Amsterdam (now lower Manhattan). Communipaw Bay was later filled in by the railroads and is now the site of Liberty State Park. During October, 1910 Jersey City celebrated the 250th Anniversary of its founding as the town of Bergen by the Dutch in 1660.
