Diana Plate and Ewer

The decoration on the edge of this dish is a fine example of auricular ornament. On the front is a scene from the story of the goddess Diana and the hunter Acteon. On the back the story continues. The two sections of the dish are attached with bolts. Each part is chased from a single sheet of silver. The dish represents one of the masterpieces of the silversmith's art. It is accompanied by a ewer showing the story of Diana and Callisto. Made in Prague. (http://www.rijksmuseum.nl)
