A provincial (stock) exchange in Belgium: the case of Termonde

Like in many other European countries, Belgium had in the 19th century a lot of little stock exchanges. These institutions played an important role in the regional economy. They fulfilled in the first place a number of specific tasks regarding the trade in consumer goods such as seeds and grains.
