Biostatistics and the COVID-19 Pandemic in Belgium, in 2020 and 2021

From a statistician’s standpoint, the first two years of the COVID-19 epidemic in Belgium are de- scribed. First, a narrative of the epidemic evolution is given, with attention for the regional differences within the country. Second, the policy advisory board structure is reviewed. The role of biostatistics is described next, both in terms of scientific research as well as regarding our profession’s role in policy making and communication to media and general public.
