Belgium and France have a history that has been intertwined for centuries. They share a geographical, historical, cultural and linguistic (for 40% of the population) proximity. However, political life is very different between the two countries. Thus, Belgian politics and community relations between Belgians may seem incomprehensible to a French person at first sight. In recent years, institutional reforms and political crises have followed one another without the French people being able to grasp the changes. How does the “big French brother” perceive the political life of her little neighbour? The aim of this paper is to understand how the French media cover Belgian politics and what they report to their public. In order to answer this question, it relies on the analysis of newspaper articles published during the last two institutional and political crises (2010-2011 and 2018-2020) in Belgium. We have coded each article published in four French daily newspapers – xxxx – and performed a critical frame analysis in order to grasp how French media cover Belgian politics and what they report to their public.
