Afficher le spectacle en Gaule Belgique : l’Énéide de Virgile au théâtre de Vendeuil-Caply (vicus des Bellovaques)

International audience ; The excavations of Gerard Dufour revealed in 1979 a titulus pictus on the outer wall of the first construction of the great Vendeuil-Caply theater (civitas of Bellovacs). We suggest a new reading of this inscription incomplete painted in red as an element of a show poster. We read it as a verse from Virgil’s Aeneid, used twice in this epic poem (I, 313 and XII, 165). The titulus pictus found in a villa in Otford (Kent) for the same period, gives us a parallel.
