This article analyzes the practices and reactions of trade unions in the context of permanent restructuring in the European industry since 1975. This article is based on the case of the Belgian steel industry where plants have suffered repeated downsizing plans but where unionization rates remained very high. The survey mixes ethnographic fieldwork in three plants, informative and biographical interviews with workers, trade unionists and managers, as well as corporate and union archives. The article points at first union leaders reactions from in order to limit the effects of downsizing and counter the managerial logic developed by experts. It then highlights the changes in the group morphology of union representatives in reduction, expanding their individual and collective activities in workers’ defense, and reconfiguration of organized resistance in the plants. ; Este artigo analisa as práticas e reações dos coletivos sindicais no contexto de reestruturações permanentes da indústria europeia desde 1975. Parte-se do caso da indústria siderúrgica belga, onde as fábricas passaram por repetidos planos de redução de mão-de-obra, mas onde a taxa de sindicalização se manteve muito alta. A pesquisa combina pesquisa etnográfica em três fábricas da ArcellorMittal, entrevistas informativas e biográficas com trabalhadores, sindicalistas e gestores, assim como arquivos da empresa e dos sindicatos. O artigo primeiro destaca as reações da direção sindical para limitar os efeitos das reduções de pessoal e para contestar a implementação de uma lógica gestionária por parte dos especialistas. Em seguida, sublinha-se as transformações da morfologia do grupo com a redução dos delegados sindicais, a ampliação de suas atividades de defesa individual e coletiva dos trabalhadores e as reconfigurações das resistências organizadas na fábrica.
