Monitoring offshore wind farms in the Belgian part of the North Sea: Setting the Scene

Offshore wind farms are expected to contribute for about 43% of the Belgian 2020 targets for renewable energy. Today, 109 turbines are operational in the Belgian part of the North Sea. In the next few years, several hundred of turbines will be up and running. With 238 km² reserved for offshore wind farms, major ecological impacts may however be expected.
