This thesis aims at studying the Spanish translations of three novels from the “cycle of Marie” of the francophone Belgian writer Jean-Philippe Toussaint. Composed by four novels – Faire l’amour, Fuir, La Vérité sur Marie et Nue – the tetralogy has been partially translated in Spanish in a fragmentary way, in two varieties of Spanish – peninsular and rioplatense – by an Argentine and two Spaniards. Our research is organised around three main problematics: fragmentary translation with the copresence of two varieties of one language, the resistance to translation and the (un)translatable, and the translation of temporality as a stylistic resource. To carry out this investigation, we have adopted a hermeneutical approach. We have also considered other multidisciplinary theoretical and bibliographic sources, as additional conceptual and methodological tools. We have first introduced the author and the general aspects of the corpus. Then, we have approached the problematic of the co-presence of two varieties of Spanish. This has led us, apart from the analysis of the strategies employed by the translators, to the study of the Spanish edition market. We have further studied the translations, focusing our attention on the most resistant parts of the text. This has allowed us to identify the temporality as a special case of resistance to translation, which we have treated separately. Finally, we have studied the paratexts, paying special attention to the covers as inter-semiotic translations. These analysis have enabled us to identify the loss and the gains generated by the studied translations in the production of sense. Our thesis, considered as a “critical” exercise – in a positive sense of the term – aims at underlining the value of the works of the translator and the translation scholars, as well as the importance of the translation of Belgian francophone literature. ; Cette thèse a pour objectif l’étude des traductions espagnoles de trois romans de la « série de Marie » de l’écrivain belge francophone ...
