Governance, technology and craftsmanship in the Belgian window-glass industry : the Charleroi region, 1830-1914

Abstract: This thesis contributes to the debates on the nature of the 19th-century industrialisation and technological development exploring the case of the Belgian window-glass industry. During the period between the Belgian independence in 1830 and the outbreak of the First World War in 1914, this industry experienced steady growth, making Belgium one of the most important window glass manufacturers in the world.
