Abstract: „The current societal turbulences impose special requirements on policing. This essay suggests how to recalibrate Dutch policing, taking into account the views held in society and within the government about good police work and in view of the changed social need for policing. It is argued that that need has split into three: policing to protect bodies and property, to deal with disturbances in the functioning of society and government and to care for the living environment of citizens.
