Diversity and trust: the role of shared values
We provide novel data on value diversity. * Our data capture the extent to which key human values are shared within societies. * We find that value diversity has a significant negative effect on trust formation. * The effect is robust to controlling for other dimensions of social diversity. * The effect is present at different levels of aggregation.
