Can state language policies distort students’ demand for education?
We study a reform toughening requisites for state language proficiency in education. * Outcomes for students in schools with minority language of instruction are explored. * The reform resulted in a decline in the number of subjects taken by minority students. * Students withdrew from linguistically-intensive subjects and took more Math instead. * In the short-run, the reform may have affected students' outcomes in a distortive way.
