Neutrophil activation induces citrullination of intracellular targets of anticitrullinated peptide antibodies (ACPA), which are specific for rheumatoid arthritis (RA). Citrullinated fibrinogen is bound by ACPA but it is less well understood how extracellular proteins are citrullinated.
