Self-reported work-related illness in 1998-99 - The proportion of people in Britain reporting that they suffered from an illness caused or made worse by work fell from 6.3% to 4.6% in the four years to 1998-99, according to new figures released by the Health and Safety Executive. But this fall in the overall prevalence of work-related illness masks a rise in reporting of specific conditions over the same period, including stress, depression and anxiety. While musculoskeletal disorders still top the league of work-related illnesses, their reporting actually dropped off between 1995 and 1998-99. Not so for stress, now in second place and accounting for one-third of reported work-related illness in 1998-99.
