Towards commercial consciousness raising - Although employee involvement techniques have been in place for a number of years, research has yet to establish the degree to which they have made employees aware of the business challenges facing the organisations for which they work. To help determine whether or not employee involvement is producing results, we interviewed a panel of senior HR practitioners who have a recent or ongoing role in devising employee involvement processes. Our informants describe the ways they have found to focus staff attention on the business goals of their organisations. They reveal how they approach communicating sensitive information to employees, the circumstances when they feel that maximum effort should be made to communicate the organisation's business goals, and the factors that have influenced changes in employee involvement in their organisations.
