From workplace to teambase - Teleworking, hotdesking, occasional and permanent homeworking and flexible working-time arrangements can improve the work-life balance of employees while yielding cost savings from more efficient use of facilities. The advantages of flexible working to employees are well documented, but one of the first considerations for any employer making such a move will be the overall business case. We investigate how the need to combine efficiency and cost savings with meeting the needs of employees and customers led to the introduction of state-of-the-art flexible working arrangements in two large employing organisations - Surrey County Council and BT - and we examine the resulting benefits to employees and employers.
