BNFL's stress partnership - In mid-1998, BNFL introduced a company-wide stress policy, rolling out the first stage at its largest site, Sellafield, where the company's main nuclear processing plant employs over a third of its 16,000 staff. The new policy coincided with major acquisitions, voluntary redundancies and a new contract, all recognised as likely sources of stress. Policy development and local implementation were marked by a strong management-union partnership approach. Training for 1,500 managers and supervisors in stress awareness marks the opening phase of the new policy.
