Workplace bullying - Throughout Europe, specifically Scandinavia, workplace bullying is increasingly being recognised as a serious issue demanding clearly-defined responses. Recent UK studies point to bullying rates ranging from 14% to over a third of employees surveyed. Three leading professional bodies have recently published guidelines and good practice on dealing with the issue. We report recent research findings in the field, including a new study from Hull University suggesting that "personality gives indications as to who is bullied, but not why bullying occurs." Drawing on interviews with key employer and trade union representatives, this issue includes case studies of bullying policies at Bournemouth Borough Council, based on a joint union-management partnership, and at the Forestry Commission, where the policy includes a victim support network of harassment advisers.
