In 1847 Jacob Smeenk, along with wife Henrika and four children, immigrated to Pella, Iowa, from Zutphen, Gelderland, The Netherlands. He was a partner in a general store, the first Postmaster, and an original member of the First Dutch Reformed Church (Christian Church) in Pella, Iowa. Collection includes 11 letters (in Dutch), Minutes of Apostolic Christian Congregation of Zutphen, naturalization certificate, cow pox vaccination certificate, and a death announcement. Translations of letters are included.
