"Craft Today USA" was based upon "Craft Today: Poetry of the Physical", a landmark exhibition organized by the American Craft Museum in 1986 to inaugurate its new facility and celebrate its 30th anniversary. "Craft Today USA" incorporated works created during the 1980's by many of the same artists represented in "Craft Today: Poetry of the Physical", plus 26 new artists. "Craft Today USA" opened in Paris at the Musée des Arts Décoratifs on May 23, 1989 and traveled through 1992.
